FRAM (“forward’, in Norwegian) is the name of the ship Roald Amundsen sailed when he conquered the South Pole in 1911. Considered the most resistant wooden vessel in the world, it was also used in the expeditions of Fridtjof Nansen to the North Pole and of Otto Sverdrup to the Arctic.
FRAM was the only ship to sail to the Earth’s two geographic extremes and symbolizes endurance and technology developed to resist even the harshest conditions. It can be seen at the FRAM Museum, in Oslo, Norway.
